Since 1992 many students from the U.S., Canada and Western Europe have studied in NaUKMA. The system of providing opportunities for foreign students to study at NaUKMA has been developed. In 2001 the NaUKMA Senate approved "The Regulation on Admission and Education of Foreigners and Stateless Persons in NaUKMA". The Regulation takes into account the new legal documents on the opportunities for the non-Ukrainian citizen to study in Ukraine.
Whether you are looking for a place to get your Bachelor's degree or to go on with your Master's degree, whether you plan to work towards the Candidate or Doctor of Science Degree or to develop your professional competency through conducting scholarly research, or, perhaps, you are interested only in taking a few particular courses - you are welcome to the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy! All those programs are available at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy for foreign students and here is some information that might be helpful if you decided to apply to the NaUKMA.
The Documents Required from the NaUKMA Foreign Applicants:
- A filled-in application form.
- Official documents that certify eligibility for the level of the academic program you are applying for.
Bachelor's Program:
- secondary (high) school transcript*,
- a certified copy of the certificate on secondary (high) school education.
Master's Program:
- university/college transcript*,
- a certified copy of Bachelor's diploma.
Aspirant Program (post-graduate):
- university transcript* of Master's program,
- a certified copy of Master's diploma,
- Master's thesis.
Candidate/Doctoral Programs (post-graduate):
- university transcript* of Master's program,
- a certified copy of Master's diploma and Candidate's diploma (if the latter is applicable),
- an outline of doctoral thesis.
Part-time Program (Non-degree. A student selects particular courses and receives a certificate if he/she passes them successfully):
- university/college transcript*,
- a certified copy of degree/diploma/certificate (if applicable).
Internship (A student conducts scholarly research under supervision of the NaUKMA professors and also may choose courses taught at the NaUKMA. Internship may last no longer than two years):
- university/college transcript*,
- a certified copy of degree/diploma/certificate.
- Non-native English speakers need to submit their TOEFL score (the minimum score - 550/200 points - is required for admission).
- An essay explaining why you want to study/conduct research at the NaUKMA.
The Special Program in Ukrainian Studies for Foreign Students (please consult the section below)
In many cases the Admissions Committee will schedule an interview with an applicant to make its final decision.
All foreign students conduct their studies at the University on the basis of individual contracts. The contract will specify your academic status at the NaUKMA and the cost of your studying.
- Tuition Fee
The cost of educational programs for foreign students is estimated on the basis of the actual yearly expenses on their education at the NaUKMA. For part-time students there is NO yearly fee, instead their tuition fee is calculated per each academic credit and therefore depends on the number of academic credits that a student receives. If you choose an individual plan of studying (which means that you work personally with your teacher instead of attending the regular class with other students), the fee per each credit is different from the one for the group classes. Please consult the attachment about the current tuition fee at the NaUKMA.
- Language of Instruction
In its academic and administrative work NaUKMA uses two languages - Ukrainian and English. Most of the courses are conducted in Ukrainian and some of them in English. Some of our Master's programs are conducted in English, so you will be able to obtain your degree having no deep knowledge of Ukrainian. However you should realize that in order to obtain Bachelor's degree in our University you NEED to have proficiency in Ukrainian. Intensive language courses are available for foreign students who want to master their Ukrainian. The language courses are individually designed depending on your current level of proficiency in Ukrainian.
Most of the University faculties and departments can suggest individual classes in English for foreign students. For details please contact the Department for Foreign Cooperation.
- Before Making a Trip to Ukraine
- A visa is needed to enter Ukraine. The procedure of obtaining a visa may take as long as 2 months. So, we advise you to start this process immediately after receiving your Letter of Acceptance.
- Also double-check our requirements regarding health issues.
- If you bring electrical appliances with you, please take into consideration that outlets in Ukraine might be different from those in your home country. The voltage is 220V. So, think over whether you need a convertible.
- Upon Arrival to Ukraine
If you are admitted, you will need to submit the following documents to become officially enrolled to the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy upon your arrival to Kyiv:
- six photos (size 3X4)
- medical examination report that states the current condition of your health (HIV/AIDS Test required).
- a copy of birth certificate/passport.
- a return ticket with open date.
All the Foreign Students, Visiting Professors and Guests of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy who arrive to Ukraine for more than three months are asked to submit their passports for registration at the Immigration Office to the Department for Foreign Cooperation THE NEXT DAY UPON THEIR ARRIVAL.
You can get all additional information about the possibilities for foreign students at the NaUKMA at the Department for Foreign Cooperation:
